Edwards Engineering’s new £1 million grain drying and processing plant for a long-term client, a major grain process facility in Fife, has been hailed a success, resulting in greater yields in less time.

The project, delivered on time and on budget, saw Perth-based Edwards Engineering take on the challenge of designing, procuring and installing a fully bespoke unit, tailormade to suit the available space at the farm storage facility.

The 18-month project has resulted in a plant which dries and processes crops with significantly improved efficiency and to a higher specification.

Edwards worked with BDC Systems Ltd to design and install a SVEGMA continuous flow 50tph Grain Dryer, Skandia conveyors and elevators, a JKF dust filtration system along with the grain pre-cleaner and cleaner from Cimbria.

Our client is now able to offer the highest quality of grain, whilst adhering to the most stringent health and safety standards.

“Our design for the plant allows our client to dry crops at a higher throughput, making the whole process quicker, while high tech controls enable one-person operation for the whole plant, saving manpower.

“As principal contractor, managing the process right through from design to installation, we were able to take a lot of the pressure off our clients. We managed multiple suppliers, negotiated with utility suppliers over electricity capacity upgrades and streamlined the design, procurement, installation, mechanical and engineering work, and after sales support, all under one roof. We also adapted our scope of work during the project to assist with the upgrade of the utilities.”
