A fire in 2017 led to Edwards dismantling, removing and installing new equipment within a tight timescale.

Following a fire in 2017, Edwards were commissioned by Moray Estates to dismantle and remove the damaged grain dryer at Wester Alves, replace it and design an improved method of removing impurities from the incoming grain. The new grain dryer supplied by BDC Systems Ltd was a Svegma model SV7/5 continuous mixed flow, rated at 42 tonnes per hour. In addition, the opportunity was taken to upgrade the electrical control panel to a modern touch screen unit complete with text alerts, ensuring that the operator can track the Dryer’s operation in real time no matter where he may be on the farm or in the field.

To ensure that the grain entering the Dryer was free from lighter impurities which are often the leading cause of fires, an Aagaard heavy duty pre-cleaner was designed to be incorporated into the system. This came with its own challenges as space within the existing set up was very tight.

In an effort to save time and save our client money, the existing elevator, feed conveyor and discharge conveyor were recycled with a chain installed as the originals had fallen victim to the heat.

With a very tight timescale both our mechanical and electrical engineers managed to get the new equipment installed and commissioned in time for this year’s harvest.
