A proud tradition of encouraging apprentices

Edwards continues its successful apprenticeship programme

Edwards has a proud tradition of encouraging apprentices to join and grow through various parts of the business, and that has continued in 2018. Last December Edwards took on a new batch of recruits who have smoothly integrated into the company and are now a firm part of the engineering make-up.

A total of eight apprentices are working at Edwards right now, and two of those recently came through the apprenticeship qualification last September, which is a huge achievement and testament to the thriving programme set out by Edwards.

Both John Morrow and Ewan White completed their apprenticeship. “I finished school and worked alongside my Dad as a joiner, before applying for the position”, says Ewan, stating the wide range of work and the opportunity to get involved and learn as much as possible as reasons for enjoying it so much.

John Morrow has worked on sites all around the UK, carrying out building and maintenance, as well as repairing various types of machinery such as grain dryers and grain handling equipment. “Engineering has always been of interest to me, even from a young age I loved taking different things apart to see how they worked and then putting them back together again”. John’s main ambition is to progress at Edwards and further his already expanding knowledge of engineering.

Edwards are also pleased to announce that Chris Ewen has recently joined as a Project Manager, helping our Workshop Manager, Alan Jessimer. An interesting path has led him to work at Edwards – he recently graduated with a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. Previously he worked for many years as a chef and having switched careers to go to University as a mature student he now has his first role with Edwards. Chris has a wide remit ensuring successful delivery across procurement, scheduling and the workshop operation.

Edwards is proud of its apprenticeship programme and will endeavour to grow it, offering superb opportunities to enthusiastic and hardworking trainee engineers. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any contacts that may be interested in joining the team.
